Starting a sprint
From the Sprints tab, select New Sprint. Provide a clear sprint name, such as Sprint 14, define the sprint goal in a single sentence, and set the start and end dates.
A well-defined sprint gives your team a clear objective and timeframe before work begins.
Adding tasks
Add work to the sprint by moving existing tasks from the backlog or creating new tasks directly within the sprint.
Each task can belong to one active sprint at a time, helping maintain a clear and focused delivery scope.
Starting vs planning
Every sprint moves through two stages:
- Planning - The team prepares the sprint by selecting tasks, defining estimates, and finalising the scope.
- Active - The sprint is underway. The sprint scope is locked, and TaskChecker begins tracking progress through the burndown chart.
This separation helps teams distinguish between preparation and active execution.
Estimating Work
Before starting the sprint, add an estimate to each task using story points or hours.
These estimates provide the foundation for tracking sprint progress and contribute to burndown charts and velocity reports, helping teams understand capacity and delivery performance over time.
Ending a Sprint
When the sprint reaches its end date, close the sprint and review the remaining work. Incomplete tasks can be:
- Moved to the next sprint to continue planned work.
- Returned to the backlog for future prioritisation.
TaskChecker lets you move incomplete work with a single action, making it easy to maintain a clean and organised sprint history.
Keep Every Sprint Focused
A successful sprint starts with a clear goal, a realistic scope, and well-estimated work. Use TaskChecker to plan deliberately, execute with visibility, and carry unfinished work forward without losing context.
