Timeline / Gantt

Map work across dates with dependency lines.

4 min read

The Timeline view provides a visual, calendar-based overview of your project. Each task appears as a horizontal bar spanning its scheduled start and due dates, while dependency lines show the relationships between tasks and highlight work that is blocked or dependent on another task.

Reading the timeline

The Timeline view gives you a clear picture of how work is scheduled and progressing.

  • Task duration- The length of each bar represents the task's scheduled duration.
  • Task status - Bar colors indicate the current status, such as To Do , In Progress, or Done.
  • Dependencies - Connecting arrows show the direction and relationship between dependent tasks.
  • Today - A vertical marker highlights the current date, helping you quickly identify where your project stands against the schedule.

Adjusting dates

You can update task schedules directly from the timeline.

  • Resize a barto change the task's start or due date.
  • Drag the entire bar to move the task while preserving its duration.
  • Dependency protectionIf changing a task's dates affects dependent tasks, TaskChecker alerts you before the change creates a potential scheduling conflict or pushes another task past its deadline.

This makes it easier to adjust plans without losing visibility into downstream impacts.

Zoom levels

Choose the timeline scale that best matches your planning needs:

  • Day - Ideal for detailed scheduling and short sprint planning.
  • Week - Provides a balanced view for managing active project work.
  • Month - Useful for high-level planning, roadmaps, and quarterly project visibility.

Switch between zoom levels from the top-right corner of the Timeline view.

Grouping by sprint

Enable Sprint Grouping to organise tasks into horizontal swim lanes based on their assigned sprint.

This makes it easier to:

  • Compare work across sprints
  • Identify overlapping sprint schedules
  • Spot gaps in planned work
  • Understand how tasks are distributed across project cycles

With Timeline and Gantt views, your team gets a clear visual understanding of what needs to happen, when it needs to happen, and what work depends on it.

The Timeline view is read-heavy and works best for planning meetings — for day-to-day task movement, the Kanban board is faster.
